2010 Annual Fun Trials (results now added!)

Hamish has just sent in a trip report for us, Joel a front page photo and The Cane Chewer (aka Sally) provided the others - thanks guys!

[Howard's shiny S3 driving through "Tardis Trough' at the beginning of the day]

We had a great day out yesterday. First run for 2010. And it was a goodie. The weather was initially fickle. After a promising sunny start at Waitakere Station the rain came through as soon as everyone assembled at the tents up at Jonkers Farm. However after an hour or so it cleared off and turned into a reasonably sunny trip.

The boys had been out for the day on Saturday setting out the courses. Big thank you to Neil and Rob (and any one else who was helping with the course layouts and marshalling) The guys had camped out Saturday night with Kyely and his boy, looked pretty good when we turned up, big tent with a fire place. It didnt take much to imagine the soft tinkle of wine bottles around the fire the night before.

The rain almost immediately made the whole situation pretty greasy and we all had fun negotiating the various short courses that looked harmless enough until you tried to actually drive on them and then the show started. It got very greasy, which naturally improved things for the spectators. We had approximately 18 vehicles attending with a mixture of road and mud tyres. The website suggested AT's would be ok, because it had been dry this would have been true, however the rain soon changed that situation. Caught some out who had actually just changed out of muddies to their other tyres. Maybe if in doubt leave your muddies on ?!

Several new or prospective members attended including Andy who has been here now for a month from the UK, he has a S11a in a container making its way over to NZ. He had arrived at the run by car so jumped in with me for the day.

Some of the courses were quite tight with some very cosy tree negotiation required. This wasnt with out some tears.....three discos caught the same tree on one course. Unfortunately two of them lost their rear left windows. There was also some damage in the time trial event I think I saw someone with a large handful of orange light lens heading over to Conways truck.

[The Club's Mega BBQ Plate quietly monitors the team discussing "Zen and The Art of Wearing a Hat" during lunch]

Really great to see the wives driving, and doing better than some of the chaps too ! Also fantastic to see the large number of young kids attending, the clubs future looks to be in good hands !

We knocked off about 5pm, with a quick club tent dismantle and air up we were all back off to Sunday dinner and work on Monday. The little homebound procession across the paddocks back to the farm house looked cute with Neil in his silver Range Rover towing a bright orange portaloo toilet. Had the appearance of being a man well prepared for a club trip. Quite regal even. So here I am in the office.......and to be honest I'd rather be smelling the sweet tea tree and tootling around in my Landy with you guys. It was a fun day out.

Thanks fellas for organising an excellent event.
